Based primarily on virtual relationships, we are launching a DIY group in YMCA Békéscsaba. We will mostly keep in touch via email, helping and encouraging each other, and picking up some real knowledge on the way.
First: a PHP course! for Beginners. Or for those who begin again. The point is that we start from the basics. The course launches on the 15th week, that is, from 12 April. Write an e-mail to Tibi Boldizsár (boldi92<kukac>gmail<pont>com) if you are intereseted.
Everybody is welcome.
PHP course
PHP (PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor) is an open-source, computer scripting language, mainly used for creating dynamic web pages.
Starter kit
Our course is made available with the contribution and support of Kataporta.hu, and is based on the online php / mysql course of their webpage (in Hungarian). To access materials, please register on their site ( http://kataporta.hu/reggis.php?lang=hu ). Then you will see the intoduction and the lesson on this page: http://kataporta.hu/php/index.php. That's where we are going to work.
In the introduction you will read about what you will need to have installed. (PHP, Apache server, perhaps even a webpage). It may sound intimidating, but no worries. We will try to help you if you get stuck.
You need to have a basic knowledge of HTML to start. You may want to visit http://www.kataporta.net/tanf/ to learn about HTML. Those who haven't heard about HTML can catch up, too.
Progress
We plan to cover one lesson per week. Thus we can finish the whole course within half a year. This doesn't seem fast, since one lesson takes one or two hours to read and understand. This pace is convenient to read through the materials maybe twice a week, and digest them a little. We can also talk to each other if some problems arise. If someone lags behind, they can easily catch up this way. If someone is busy, they can work a little in advance.
Contact
Our mailing list is maintained by Tibi Boldizsár, it is helpful for communication.
We even have a forum on our website. It would be nice to have things in here that someone has learned, and discussions or solutions of certain problems. The forum is available here: http://www.kie.hu/bekescsaba/php_forum
Paying attention to each other
We have not fully devised how we are going to pay attention to each other. Ideas are welcome.
It would be nice to know where each one of us is in the progress, so we wouldn't let anyone drop away.
We could have an inner survey, poll, something to measure satisfaction or to show who has done the weekly lesson and who needs support for that. This is what we would like to have suggestions on.
